We lost a great community leader and a driving force in our young community foundation with news of the untimely death of board member Tom Sublett, December 11th.

“Tom was part of the initial group who met in the fall of 2003 and decided to bring a community foundation to our area. Two years later the dream became a reality and Tom became a member of the board, a founder, and a fund holder here,” explained board chair Rees Sumerford.

The community is in shock. Our solace lies in the fact that he will be remembered for generations for the impact he had on this community through the many leadership roles he held here. In addition to serving on the board and executive committee of the Community Foundation, he chaired the Glynn County Commission, was a past chair of the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce, a member of the United Way board, active in the St. Simons Land Trust, and a senior warden of St. Marks Episcopal Church.

Tom leaves behind his wife Carol, daughters Leslie and Erin, sons Reid and Grant, and two grandchildren.
